After sleeping in this morning and raiding the waffle maker at La Quinta we were ready to head off into a brisk morning. With winter storm warnings on the news and snow accumulation predictions of 3 to 9 inches where we planed on riding we figured to be taking an off day. We were pleasantly surprised to see the winds blowing in our favor, and the weather holding so we decided to give it a go.
A TTT was declared and team Gutter Balls flew through the first fifty miles of the ride in two and a half hours. Unlike the last couple rides were my legs felt like my bike sounds, cracking, squeaking, jingling and barely moving, today was a different story as we powered along the beautiful valley north of the park. Justin also looked to be riding strong as he put in viscous accelerations to pick up valuable sprint points on route.
As we approached the small town of Gardiner, we soon found ourselves climbing into Yellowstone National Park. As we climbed the weather started to turn and the snow started to fall. We rode on past natural geysers and herds of elk to cap of an epic ride.
Tomorrow looks to be a lazy off day visiting the national park and trying to spot grizzly bears.
Hey guys you are doing great and making good time. Looks very cold the past few days hope you have a restful day off tomorrow. Hope to catch up with you both around Casper or Douglas Wy. Let me know what you might need from home. Dominic
ReplyDeleteHey Justin and Dave,
ReplyDeleteI received my post card today. Thanks. I was quite jealous of your trip originally, and it was difficult to see you go and not be on the long haul trucker beside you. HOWEVER, after seeing the weather and conditions your battling I'm less envious and quite content to be sitting this one out. It's good to see you have some support. With the conditions your in it's a must have. Any mechanicals yet? Keep up the good work. I look forward to reading future posts. Hows the tent working out? Being a single wall it's not as warm I imagine. I hope I didn't give you some bad advice. Keep the rubber on the road!
